Tres Leches is a delicious cake made with three milks. These are evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk or heavy cream. When these are combined with a few other ingredients it creates a moist but not mushy cake. The cake turns out to be like a sponge soaking up delicious milk syrup. After being baked and cooled, vanilla whipped cream is added to the top(History of Tres Leches Cake). The original idea of a Tres Leches Cake came many years ago to boost milk sales. The recipe for the cake was put on cans of evaporated milk(Tres Leches Cake in Diana’s Recipe Book). The Tres Leche Cake became popular in the 1900’s(Pastel de Tres Leches history). Tres Leche cakes are mainly used for fancy parties and have now become a tradition for cinco de mayo.
